How would I play .AVI files on my dvd player using an external hard drive or Flash Drive?

Basically I am tired of burning dvd data disks to play movies on my divx player. Unfortunately I do not have an usb hookup on my dvd divx player. So my question is, are there dvd players that have usb ports for external hard drives/flash drives and if I am able to hook it up to the usb port would it actually play the movie?
